Massive Earthquake Hits Taiwan
A strong 7.4 magnitude earthquake hits the city of Hualien in Taiwan, killing at least 4 and injuring more than 700 people.
The earthquake struck 18 KM southeast of Hualien City on 2nd fo April 2024 – 23:58:11 (UTC), damaging highrise buildings the most and some roadways and highways are also blocked.

Rescue operations underway
At least 4 people have been killed and more than 700 have been reported injured. As rescue operations are carried out, the residents are forced to leave their homes and remain outside.
The state-owned electricity board – Taipower said that more than 87000 homes remain without power.
President Tsai Ing Wen of Taiwan has ordered the military to help with the rescue operations.
In a statement via Facebook post, she said ” The national military will meet the needs of local governments and provide support to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the citizens”.

One of the Strongest Earthquakes in Taiwan
It is the strongest shockwave that struck the Island in the past 25 years. It also led Japan to issue Tsunami warnings and evacuation advisories for coastal regions, which were lifted later after confirming that there was no possibility of the said dangers in their country.
Tremors were felt in China as well, the Chinese media confirmed the news and reported that the shockwaves were felt in several areas of the Fujian Province.
More than 25 aftershocks were also felt in the area and neighboring countries as well, the biggest being a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter Scale.
