From Rameswaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan: Celebrating Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Journey

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born on this day (15th October) in 1931. He was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and grew to be the ‘People’s President’ and, at the same time, a source of inspiration to many. And, pride and respect accompany the day.

Early Life and Education

Eager to learn and help his family, Kalam used to sell newspapers, all the while remaining curious and forging deeply around. And, the love for learning soon comforted his choice to enter the Madras Institute of Technology to pursue and eventually earn his degree in aeronautics.

The Missile Man of India

Kalam’s work at ISRO and DRDO helped shape the foundations of India’s space and missile defense systems. Following his work on the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, he was awarded the title “Missile Man of India.” As a result, he was considered a national icon and a benchmark of dedication and innovation.

President and Teacher

In the year 2002, APJ Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India. For his warmth and connection to the public, he particularly stood out to the students. He believed that the future of India rested on the youth, stating “Dream, dream, dream. Dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action.”

After he retired, he remained a teacher at heart, continuing to write, meeting students, and fostering hope.

Legacy That Inspires Generations

APJ Abdul Kalam’s legacy still evokes strong principles such as the value of hard work , and honesty, and great ambition. On his birth anniversary, we celebrate not just a great leader, but a great visionary as well, one who gave hope to millions upon millions of people.

Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015. Even still, his life and the example he set continues to be a comfort to many. His quotes and life story provide inspiration and earn the respect of a vast majority of the population. He remains one of the most revered people in history.
